Christmas Past at the Farm post 22

Cold Blast ...2022

Frigid cold temperatures at the farm this week.

We covered the floors of the chicken coop with a deep layer of hay.

Normally, their feed and water are kept outside in the run.

But with -40 wind chill we moved everything inside the coop and locked them in until the artic blast was over…it took three days!

Belated Christmas Wishes...

It’s December 28, 2022 and we are still in the middle of Christmas celebrations with our family.

Trying to schedule a weekend where everyone is available is almost impossible, but I’ve always tried to be very flexible when it comes to celebrating holidays with my family.

The holidays are stressful enough without the pressure of trying to visit every relative and friend in two days.

Who cares if it’s on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day…as long as the family wants to come over to my house, I don’t care when it is!

My sweet nieces still want to come over to “Aunt San’s house” even though they are adults and have lives of their own.

So our last Christmas party this year is on Jan. 8th, with my brother Scott, his wife Pati and their girls, Lexi, Laney and Maddy. (and boyfriends, if available)

Along for the fun are my in town kids, Abbie and Emily and the grandkids, Lucy, Drew, Aiden and Molly.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas…I just love Christmas time.

This is a short post about the second Christmas on the farm.

Christmas at the Farm 2019

My house was decorated, the gifts were wrapped and under the tree.

Little chairs were placed just so, in anticipation of a group photo of the grandkids.

Pull it together...

My brother and family were coming over in a week to celebrate Christmas.

I was baking cookies, and a random memory of my kids when they were little, came to mind, putting on a “show”.

Did your kids ever do this?

Dress up in make shift costumes and come up with a stage performance for the parents to watch?

Wouldn’t it be cute to surprise my family with a “cousins” Christmas show?

I had one week to pull it together.

Getting everyone on board...

When the grandkids were over, I asked them what they thought about doing a Christmas skit for the adults.

Luckily, they were all little enough to be all in!

They especially loved the idea that it was a secret, lol

We discussed should it be Disney based, a Christmas song and other ideas.

The two oldest, Lucy and Drew (8 years old) said in music class that week, they had listened to some really scary music that was very pretty too.

It was from a ballet called “The Nutcracker”, lol.

After listening to a few tracks, we found the one they liked.

Playclothes...

At the farm, downstairs in the grandkids playroom, is a vintage chest of drawers that I filled with old costumes.

Lucy picked out a dress saved from my daughter’s 8th grade graduation (she was now 40) also her left over bridal veil, lol.

Molly, then 2 years old, picked out a skirt from a life-sized Barbie doll, we’d have to modify it somehow.

The only thing the boys found, that they liked, were a couple of plastic swords hahahaha.

I would definitely have to make something for them to wear.

The Skit...

As the music played, we came up with an entrance for the boys and their swords…

Pairing the little kids together, the big kids “taught the little ones, how to dance”…

You put your hands like this and round and round and under your arms….I was shocked.

It looked pretty good.

Get out the glue gun....

I bought a couple red tee shirts and glued on yellow felt trim/buttons.

Using felt and cardboard, I made a couple of marching soldier hats for the boys.

With a couple of Ken’s old belts fastened over the tee shirts

…and we are good to go.

Dress Rehearsal...

Molly didn’t want to wear anything under the Barbie skirt, so we tied it up and over one shoulder, because I was afraid Aiden would step on it and pull the whole thing down, lol.

We hot glued paper snowflakes on the back of Lucy’s veil.

They were thrilled with their “costumes”. lol

Break a leg...

After supper and opening gifts, the kids went downstairs to get ready.

Aiden’s hat lost a button, before we even got upstairs, lol.

Molly still didn’t want to wear her clothes under her Barbie doll skirt and the end result was a shoulder less dress on a two year old, lol!

But they took “the show” so seriously, whispering on the stairs as the music was cued.

You will have to use your “Nutcracker Ballet”  imagination…I couldn’t figure out the sound on the video, lol

Molly had to show mommy her gloves before she could start dancing, lol.

Here’s a small part of the video…wonderful memories at Sweet Tea Yankee Farm.

Until next time…Have a Happy New Year.

See you in a couple weeks with more memories as we continue learning to be farmers!

Fondly, Sandy
