Candy filled GIANT Pumpkin Suckers…how to make them! post 42

Halloween time at the farm...

Part of the reason we moved to this property, was to share a farming experience with our family and friends.

Over the past 5 years, many parties have been held in our pole barn.  In October, we host a Costume/Carnival/Hayride/Barn Supper.

Each time, I try to have a special treat for the kids that attend.

This year I found an idea on instagram from an account I follow called Louisiana Women 1.

Here is a link to her channel:

Here is how I made my giant Candy filled Pumpkin Suckers!

Supplies...

You will need the following supplies to assemble your suckers:

Balloon Sticks, Cello bags 5×11.5, black and orange ribbon, 6 inch paper plates, individually wrapped candy, black and orange tissue paper, black pipe cleaners, stapler, packing tape.

Candy and Plates...

You will need two 6″ paper plates for each sucker.

Here is the candy I used to fill the paper plate. It was nice and full, and I was still able to put a plate on top without smashing the candy too much.

Balloon Stick and top plate...

Wrap each stick with curling ribbon, to make it look like a sucker stick. Using packing tape, tape the stick to the bottom of the second plate.

I bought the balloon sticks and curling ribbon, at Hobby Lobby, but they are available at other stores too.

Assembly line...

Figure out how many pumpkin filled suckers you want to make.  Place a paper plate for each sucker, around the perimeter of a table, face up.  If you need more space, this can be done on a bed or floor too.

Fill each plate with candy.

Attach it together...

Lay the plate with the stick taped to it, on top of the plate with the candy. Staple or tape plates together.

Tissue Paper...

I bought this tissue paper at Hobby Lobby also. They have lots of different colors in individual packs.

Wrap a piece of the tissue over the plates and gather together at the bottom, by the stick.

Pumpkin face and Plastic cover

Using a glue gun, I stuck on a couple triangles, and a smile that I cut from scraps of black construction paper.

Slide over a cello bag to give it a finished sucker look. Tie ribbon around the base and make a bow, curl the ends of the ribbon for a cute effect.

Candy Filled Pumpkin Suckers...

I stored the finished suckers in a large, under the bed tote. It made transporting them easy too.

Another cute style..

For another cute variety, you can make a spider sucker too. Cover your plate with black tissue paper and  glue on googly eyes, before covering with the cello bag.

Pipe Cleaner legs...

Twist together some black pipe cleaners to make eight legs and tape them on the back of the cello bag.

Finish with tying the ribbon around the bottom and making a bow.

Friendly Spider Sucker...

This was a easy and fun project to do. The candy and the paper plates were the most expensive part, but still a pretty reasonable little gift.

I ended up making around 35 of them for our Halloween Carnival. Kids aged 3 to 14 loved them!

Here's the latest at the Farm.

FARM BREAKFAST… To fill you in.

Having a hobby farm, can be REALLY expensive, but most of all lots and lots of work. Maybe we could pay to have some things done that we can no longer do.

To defray some of the costs, I thought of hosting a “Farm Breakfast/Farm Tour” once a month, next summer.

When I mentioned it to my brother, he was all in! We grew up in a restaurant and he wanted to do an experiment, right away!

So we planned our “Trial Farm Breakfast”, for Oct. 29, 2023   …yes! that’s in two weeks, lol!

We are going to cook and serve a big farm breakfast in the pole barn.

Here’s the menu:

2 – Farm Fresh eggs from our free range hens

2 – pieces of bacon

Homemade cornbread

Fried potatoes

Side of fruit

Biscuits and Gravy

Homemade Pancakes

Coffee, Tea, or bottled water

Cost is $15.00 (kids meal: Pancakes, fruit, one side and milk $5.00)

We will be serving anytime, between 9:30 – 11:30 on Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2023        So we have room for around 10 more people, to be our guinea pigs, lol!

If you want to bundle up and come out to the farm, leave a message in the comments section and I’ll connect with you.

Thank you everyone, for your continued encouragement and love.

Fondly, Sandy
