Christmas Card Photo at the Farm post 19 Post published:November 14, 2022 Post category:Christmas / Farm Buildings / Holidays / Lifestyle Christmas shed... This was our second Christmas at the Farm, I couldn’t wait to start with the festivities.I had painted the shed this last summer, and was in love with the colors! There is a perfect view of the shed from my kitchen window and it would be so much fun to decorate.Fixing it up to look like Santa’s workshop would be easy because of the red siding and green door, it was already Christmas colors! Gathering Greens... After cleaning out the fall flowers from the window boxes on the red shed, my plan was to fill them with pine branches.Out in the field and around the perimeter of the farm, are various kinds of spruce and pine trees.Taking the golf cart and my pruning shears, I went out to gather the evergreen boughs.Because we had only lived here for one year, there were still many undiscovered areas in the fields and side yards,To my delight, we had six different kinds of evergreen trees to harvest my pine boughs from! This is the view looking down the private drive toward the field.A pretty row of spruce trees line the drive. Letters... Imagining what Santa’s workshop would look like, there was one thing that had to be there….a mail box!Could I build one from some old wood lying around the farm and paint it, surely there would be something I could use.On a shopping trip to Hobby Lobby, I found a surprisingly real looking mailbox!Made of metal and life size…it was perfect. Trimmings... There are four windows with window boxes on the shed.Filling them all with a variety of greens… they still needed something to make them look more whimsical.Downstairs in my sewing area, I found some huge rick-rack left over from another project.Using tacks to attach the trim, there was just enough to go around each window. Santa... What is Santa’s workshop without Santa!I knew I had a large Santa face that would probably be the right size…From the inside of the window, I hung this face so it would look like he was inside his workshop, looking out.A couple of oversized candy ornaments, hung on the shutters and we are in business! After hanging the mailbox by the door, I used one of the pine boughs as a little tree.Covering it with a string of star lights…it was pretty much done. Ideas... …another one of my “ideas” popped in my head, this would make the perfect backdrop for a Christmas Card picture! What are the chances that I could talk my husband into dressing up like Santa? The kids could wear the elf costumes I made a few years ago. I could wear the Mrs. Santa coat I made for myself… We could have our dog “Happy” in the picture, it would make an adorable Christmas card! Getting everyone on board... In my imagination… the kids ran up to me saying what a wonderful idea I had.…then reality hits home.Surprisingly, my husband was a good sport about the whole thing, lol!The little kids loved putting on their elf costumes…but were kinda “scared” of Santa. The big kids hardly wanted any part of it. Saying if I put this on Facebook they are going to die of embarrassment! The Perfect Shot... Setting up the tri-pod with a makeshift clip on top to hold my phone…I would set the timer and run to get in the shot. The wind was blowing so my hood wouldn’t stay on,There were no belt loops on the Santa costume, so Ken’s belt kept slipping up and twisting around. Of course, our dog “Happy” was her normal unhappy self and looked everywhere but at the camera. The wreath fell off the door… It is what it is... So out of all the shots…we didn’t get one good one, lol!My husband was over it…the kids were over it …and the dog was never on board to begin with, lol!But now I look back and laugh at it all! I’m so glad we made the effort and now have a funny story to tell, lol!
