We were living in the middle of a three-month kitchen renovation at the farm. It was November and I was determined to have Thanksgiving in our new house!
So exciting to see the lighting going in! The soffit was the perfect place to mount the overhead fixtures.
TIP: After many hours of internet searching, surprisingly, exterior lighting was about half the price of interior lighting, and I loved the look
Thanksgiving was in one week!
THE COUNTERTOPS… Dare to dream!
White quartz countertops, (with a little sparkle), were ordered from a local company a few weeks ago. The company was extremely busy and would try to get the counters installed by Christmas, but no promises.
They would call us when the quartz was delivered to the warehouse.
We would schedule an appointment for them to come out and take the final measurements, then the cutting and retro fitting would be done, followed by the scheduled delivery and installation.
They called us on the Saturday before Thanksgiving…. the quartz was in! I grabbed my coat and some homemade Christmas Cookies and jumped in my car. Could I dare to hope…could I dare to pray that somehow, someway I could get my countertops by Thanksgiving?!!!
Pulling into the parking lot, I saw the gal that waited on me in the showroom. Jumping out of my car, I ran over to her and pled my case…. was there any way possible my countertops could be installed in four days…by Thanksgiving? Could she please deliver these cookies to the crew foreman and ask HIM for me?
On MONDAY morning the foreman came out and measured…
on WEDNESDAY at 5:00 in the afternoon, the crew delivered and installed my countertops…the day before Thanksgiving!
TIP: Kindness and food gifts work every time!
Makeshift Thanksgiving
The electric oven was plugged in the laundry room and the casseroles were baked in disposable aluminum pans.
No paper plates for me, lol, the table was set with real dishes…
after dinner, we washed them in the utility sink in the laundry room, lol!
The tradition of a Thanksgiving craft was enjoyed by all…including my fun-loving niece Lexi!
We all piled in for our first family picture on the farm, this was a Thanksgiving we will never forget…lol.
The next step in the kitchen...
Corrugated Tin, Galvinized Pipe....and Shiplap
When my best friend Sandi and I, were on the hunt for a pantry door, we found some vintage corrugated tin roofing. My idea was to use it on the front of my island, with a galvanized pipe for a footrest.
John’s crew did a great job, (this is the view when the pipe was sitting on the floor before mounting it to the front of the island) After my bar stools came in they measured and mounted the footrest accordingly.
Shiplap on the backwall wrapped around the corner and also serves as a backsplash over the sink. Matching the horizontal lines going around the corner and onto the other wall was matched perfectly! Great crew John!
When deciding on my light fixtures, I narrowed it down to three styles… but I couldn’t decide, lol! They all coordinated, so… all three it is!
The hood vent was installed…the bar stools came in and the room was looking just like I saw it in my minds eye, the day the wall came down.
Christmas was coming!
By the way… where were my Christmas decorations?!
Downstairs? In the barn?
Next time, the first cookie exchange party at the farm…still in the middle of a kitchen renovation. lol!
